what is a comprehensive plan?
The City of Chewelah is updating its Comprehensive Plan, one of the city’s most important guiding documents.
BUT What is a comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is a 20-year vision by and for the community, it establishes goals and policies for nearly everything a jurisdiction does. And it is intimately tied to zoning and other regulations that govern land development throughout the community.
WhY Plan?
The comprehensive planning process ensures long-term sustainable economic growth, without compromising the community character. The plan identifies areas of opportunity and risk and creates goals and policies designed to capitalize on the opportunities and mitigate the risks.
The goal is to avoid crisis-driven policy making and to ensure that policies represent the community’s needs and wants.
Plans are only as good as
the community support behind them.
WE NEED YOU!
The main driver in the planning process is community feedback. The City, supported by SCJ Alliance, a consultancy, will be engaging the community through in-person events, online surveys, and public announcements. We will be publishing an engagement schedule in March, with opportunities for everyone to participate in formal events.
